Introduction
Group Hierarchies in BuddyBoss allow you to organize groups into parent and subgroup relationships. This feature enhances community organization by grouping related groups under a common parent.
These settings provide a structured community experience, enhancing navigation and encouraging focused interactions within organized group hierarchies.
Step-by-Step Procedure
Step 1: Enable Group Hierarchies
Before creating parent and subgroup relationships, you need to enable the Group Hierarchies feature.
- Navigate to BuddyBoss > Settings > Groups from your Dashboard.
- Scroll down to find the Group Hierarchies section.
- Tick the box to Enable Group Hierarchies.
- Click Save Settings to confirm the change.
Step 2: Access Hierarchy Settings
After enabling Group Hierarchies, two additional options will appear:
- In the Group Hierarchies section, you will see:
- Hide Subgroups – Tick this box if you want to hide subgroups from the main Group Directory.
- Restrict Invitations – Tick this box to require members to join the parent group before being invited to subgroups.
- Click Save Settings after making your selections.
Why Use These Options?
- Hide Subgroups keeps the Group Directory clean and organized, showing only parent groups.
- Restrict Invitations ensures that subgroup members are first part of the parent community, maintaining a structured membership flow.
Step 3: Create Parent and Subgroup Relationships
Once Group Hierarchies are enabled, you can assign subgroups to a parent group.
- Navigate to the Groups Page and select the group you want to make a subgroup.
- Under the group header, click on the three dots.
- Select Manage – Settings from the dropdown menu.
- Scroll down to find the Group Parent section.
- Select the Parent Group from the dropdown list.
- Click Save Changes to confirm.
Test the Setting:
- Navigate to the Subgroup Page.
- Confirm that the group header now shows the subgroup relationship, e.g., Architecture is a subgroup of Nature Lovers.
