How to Change the WordPress Author URL Slug

By default, WordPress uses “/author/” slug as a link to the user profile (without BuddyBoss Platform), there is no built-in setting to change it.  However, you can use the following function code. Please see the steps below:

Note: Make sure to have a complete site backup before proceeding

    1. Go to Appearance – Theme Editor.

    2. Under Select theme to edit, choose (BuddyBoss Child/current active theme), then click Select.

    3. Below Theme Files, select Theme Functions (functions.php).

    4. Append the code just before the closing PHP tag “?>”:

function custom_author_base() { global $wp_rewrite; $wp_rewrite->author_base = 'members'; } add_action('init', 'custom_author_base');

Note: You may change ‘members‘ to your preferred slug.

    5. Click Update File to save the changes.

Note: Any modifications are considered as custom work already. Know more about our Support Policy here: https://www.buddyboss.com/support-policy/

Before adding the code, the link was:

https://example.dev/author/johndoe

After adding the code, the link will be:

https://example.dev/members/johndoe
