How to Require Users to Agree to Legal Terms When Registering

Introduction

To help website owners comply with GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation) and other privacy laws, the BuddyBoss Platform allows you to require new users to explicitly agree to your Terms of Service and Privacy Policy before registering an account.

By enabling this feature, users must check a legal agreement box before creating an account, ensuring clear consent. This setting applies to both your website and the BuddyBoss App if enabled.

This guide walks you through enabling the legal agreement checkbox and ensuring your terms pages are properly assigned.

Note: If you are using Custom Registration, temporarily use the BuddyBoss Registration to enable the agreement checkbox, then switch back to Custom Registration.

Access the Registration Settings

  1. Log in to your WordPress Dashboard.
  2. Navigate to BuddyBoss > Settings.
  3. Click on the General tab.
  4. Scroll down to the Registrations section.

Enable the Agreement Checkbox

  1. Ensure BuddyBoss Registration is enabled.
  2. Locate the setting Add Legal Agreement Checkbox to Register Form.
  3. Check the box to enable this feature.
  1. Scroll down and click Save Settings.

Verify the Registration Form Update

  1. Open your site’s registration page.
  2. Refresh the page to see the new “I agree to the Terms of Service and Privacy Policy” checkbox.
  3. The Create Account button will remain disabled until the user checks the box.

Assigning Terms of Service and Privacy Policy Pages

The Terms of Service and Privacy Policy links in the registration form pull from the pages assigned in BuddyBoss Settings.

How to Check or Update These Pages:

  1. Go to BuddyBoss > Pages.
  2. Scroll down to the Terms of Service and Privacy Policy sections.
  3. Assign a page to your Terms of Service and Privacy Policy

Note: If both pages are assigned, both links will appear in the registration form; if only one is assigned, only that link will display. This applies to both your website and the BuddyBoss App.

Troubleshooting and FAQs

Q: The checkbox does not appear on my registration form.

A: Clear your site cache and refresh the page in an incognito window.

A: Make sure you have assigned these pages in BuddyBoss > Pages. If no pages are assigned, the links won’t appear.
