How to Optimize Notifications in BuddyBoss Platform

Introduction

While notifications are powerful for engaging users, they can become overwhelming in larger or active communities. This guide explains how to optimize notifications in BuddyBoss.

Option 1: Hide Messages from Notifications

By default, new private messages trigger notifications in two places: Messages and Notifications. The Hide From Notifications feature lets you separate these alerts to reduce redundancy.

  1. Navigate to BuddyBoss > Settings > Notifications from your Dashboard.
  2. Scroll down to the Message Notifications section.
  3. Tick the box for Hide From Notifications.
  1. Click Save Settings to apply the changes.

Option 2: Delay Email Notifications

The Delay Email Notifications feature groups multiple messages into one digest email, reducing the number of emails sent while keeping users updated. To configure this, follow the steps below:

  1. Navigate to BuddyBoss > Settings > Notifications from your Dashboard.
  2. Scroll down to the Message Notifications section.
  3. Tick the box for Delay Email Notifications.
  4. Select your preferred delay time:
    • The default is 15 minutes, but you can choose between 15 minutes and 24 hours.

Click Save Settings to confirm.

How It Works:

  • If a private message is left unread, the user will receive an email notification after the specified delay.
  • Multiple messages from the same conversation are combined into a single, organized email digest.

Troubleshooting & FAQs

Q: Why are notifications still appearing in both Messages and Notifications?
A: Ensure that the Hide From Notifications option is checked and saved. Clear your site cache to apply the changes.

Q: What happens if a user is already online when a message is sent?
A: If Delay Email Notifications is enabled and the user is online, the email is delayed and combined into a digest if additional messages are sent.
