How to Manage Notification Types in BuddyBoss Platform

This guide explains how to manage Notification Types in the BuddyBoss Platform, allowing members to customize their notifications for Email, Web, and App from a single page. Site administrators can control which notification types are available, set default options, and customize email templates. 

Step-by-Step Procedure

Step 1: Access Notification Settings

To configure and control the notification types:

  1. Navigate to BuddyBoss > Settings > Notifications from your Dashboard.
  1. Scroll down to the Notification Types section.

Step 2: Manage Notification Preferences as a Member

  1. Click on your Profile Dropdown and navigate to Account – Notification Settings.
  1. In the Notification Settings page, you will find three types of notifications:
    • Email Notifications: Alerts members via email for updates and interactions.
    • Web Notifications: On-screen notifications displayed while browsing the site.
    • App Notifications: Push notifications sent through the BuddyBoss App.
  1. Toggle the checkboxes for each notification type to enable or disable notifications.
  2. Click Save Settings to apply your changes.

Step 3: Control Specific Notification Types

  • Example: Disabling Mention Notifications
    • In the Notification Types section, locate the notification for mentions.
    • Uncheck the box to disable it.
  • Click Save Settings.

Step 4: Edit Email Templates

  1. In the Notification Types section, look for the Email Template button on the right side of each notification.
  1. Click on Email Template to be redirected to the Email Templates page.
  1. Here, you can Edit the content of the email.

Step 5: Repair Missing Email Templates

If you notice any email template is missing, you can restore the default templates.

  1. Navigate to Tools – Repair Community from the Dashboard.
  2. Tick the box for Install Missing Emails (restore missing emails from default).
  3. Click on the Repair Items button.

Step 6: Control Web Notifications

To manage the display of on-screen notifications:

  1. Under On-Screen Notifications in BuddyBoss – Settings – Notifications:
    • Uncheck the box for On-screen notifications.
  2. Click Save Settings.
  1. Refresh the frontend, and the Web Notification option will disappear from the Notification Settings page.

Step 7: Manage App Notifications

To control push notifications in the BuddyBoss App:

  1. Navigate to BuddyBoss App – Components from the Dashboard.
  2. Deactivate the Push Notifications component.
  1. Refresh the frontend, and the App Notification section will disappear from the Notification Settings page.

Q: How do I restore default notification settings?
A: You can manually reset each notification type or use the Repair Community tool to restore defaults.

Q: What should I do if email notifications are not being sent?
A: Check your email server settings and ensure the email templates are correctly configured. You can also use the Repair Community option to reinstall missing email templates.

Q: Can I disable email notifications but keep web and app notifications active?
A: Yes, simply uncheck the box for Email Notifications while leaving Web and App notifications enabled.
