How to Integrate MemberPress Courses with BuddyBoss Platform

Introduction

The MemberPress Courses add-on plugin adds e-learning or learning management system (LMS) to your website. This plugin is an add-on that can be used with MemberPress Basic, Plus, and Pro licenses. If you have not set up your MemberPress plugin, check the MemberPress Setup article to begin.

Integrating MemberPress Courses with BuddyBoss allows you to:

  • Display course activities within Social Groups, fostering a community learning environment.
  • Enable custom post types such as Courses, Lessons, Assignments, and Quizzes on the Activity Feed.
  • Automatically style MemberPress Course pages to match the BuddyBoss Theme, ensuring consistent branding and user experience.

Note: Only website administrators can perform the integration and configuration steps in this guide.

Step-by-Step Instructions

Step 1: Enable MemberPress Integration in BuddyBoss

  1. From the WordPress Admin Dashboard, navigate to BuddyBoss Plugin > Integrations.
  1. On the Integrations page, select the MemberPress tab.
  1. Check the Enable Integration checkbox.
  2. Click Save Settings at the bottom of the page.

Once saved, additional configuration options will become visible for setting up Course Visibility and Activity Feed integration.

Step 2: Integrate MemberPress Courses with BuddyBoss Social Groups

2.1 Enable Course Visibility in Social Groups

  1. In the MemberPress tab under BuddyBoss Integrations, check the Course Visibility option.
    • This allows administrators to link MemberPress Courses to Social Groups.
    • A new Courses tab will appear in the Group Navigation Menu, displaying all associated courses.

2.2 Display Course Activity in Group Feed

  1. Enable the appropriate options under Display Course Activity to share course progress in the group feed. Options include:
    • Group member started a course
    • Group member completed a course
    • Group member completed a lesson
    • Group member completed an assignment
    • Group member completed a quiz

Note:
– Only the website administrator can enable or disable these options.
– This configuration respects Group Privacy Settings. For example, if the group is Public, course activities will appear in the Site Activity Feed.

  1. Save the configuration by clicking the Save Settings button at the bottom of the page.

Note:
1. Features like Assignments and Quizzes require enabling additional MemberPress add-ons.
2. Navigate to MemberPress > Add-ons and Install & Activate the relevant add-ons.

Step 4: Configure Social Groups for MemberPress Courses

After enabling integration, you can configure social groups either from the Back End or the Front End.

Back End Configuration

  1. Go to WordPress Admin Dashboard > BuddyBoss Plugin > Groups.
  2. Click New Group to create a new group.
  3. After creating the group, click on the Edit link for the individual group.
  4. Scroll down to Group Settings and enable the MemberPress LMS option.
  1. Select the desired Course Activities and Courses to display.
  2. Click Save Changes to complete the configuration.

Front End Configuration

  1. Go to the Group Directories on the front end.
  2. Click on Create a Group and fill in the group details.
  3. In the Courses step, enable the Course Tab.
  1. Select Course Activities and Courses to display.
  2. Click Finish to create the group.

Alternative Method:

  • Navigate to an existing group’s Manage tab > Courses sub-tab.
  • Enable Yes, I want to add courses to this group.
  • Select the desired Course Activities and Courses.
  • Click Save Changes.

Step 5: Integrate MemberPress Courses to Posts in Activity Feed

Enable Custom Post Types for Activity Feed

  1. Navigate to WordPress Admin Dashboard > BuddyBoss Plugin > Integrations.
  2. Click on the MemberPress tab.
  3. Enable the desired Custom Post Types for the Activity Feed:
    • Courses (with comments)
    • Lessons (with comments)
    • Assignments
    • Quizzes
  1. Click Save Settings to finalize.

Supported Custom Post Types

  • Courses: Display and comment on course-related posts in the activity feed.
  • Lessons: Enable comments on lesson posts.
  • Assignments: Share assignment completion as posts.
  • Quizzes: Display quiz activities and results in the feed.

Troubleshooting & FAQs

Q1: Why are my MemberPress Courses not visible in Social Groups?

  • Ensure Course Visibility is enabled in BuddyBoss Integrations > MemberPress.
  • Confirm that the group privacy settings allow course activities to be displayed.

Q2: Why are course activities not appearing in the Activity Feed?

  • Make sure the relevant Custom Post Types are enabled for the Activity Feed.
  • Verify that the BuddyBoss Plugin > Settings > Activity Feed settings are configured correctly.
