How to Configure a Private Network in BuddyBoss Platform

Introduction

The Private Network feature in the BuddyBoss Platform allows you to restrict access to your site, ensuring only logged-in members can view content. This is useful for creating exclusive membership websites or internal communities

In this guide, we’ll walk you through configuring your site as a private network and customizing visibility settings.

Enabling Private Website

  1. Navigate to BuddyBoss > Settings.
  1. Scroll down to the Privacy section.
  2. Check the box for Private Website.
  3. Click the Save Settings button.

Once enabled, any logged-out user attempting to access your site will be redirected to the login page.

Allowing Public Website Content

If you want certain pages or sections of your site to remain publicly accessible while the rest stays private:

  1. In the Privacy section, locate the Public Website Content field.
  2. Enter the URLs or URI fragments (e.g., /groups/, /forums/) that should remain visible.
  3. Enter one URL or URI per line.
  4. Click Save Settings.

To verify:

  • Open an Incognito Window and visit a restricted page—it should require login.
  • Try accessing a URL you added to Public Website Content—it should be publicly visible.

Additional Privacy Options

Private REST APIs

  • Enabling Private REST APIs restricts REST API access to logged-in users.
  • By default, some API endpoints are accessible without login.
  • Once enabled, all API endpoints will require authentication.

Private RSS Feed

  • If you want to restrict RSS feed access while keeping your site public, enable Private RSS Feed.
  • When enabled, users trying to access the RSS feed URL will be redirected to the login page.

Troubleshooting and FAQs

Q:  Why can’t I access my site after enabling Private Website?
A: Try accessing a page listed in Public Website Content to confirm settings.

Q: Why are some pages still visible when Private Website is enabled?
A: Check the Public Website Content section—any pages listed there remain publicly accessible. Clear your browser cache and test in an Incognito Window.
